Outreach with a human touch

April 2007 ~ Central Asia

Central Asian culture has been greatly influenced by its contact with Russia when it was part of the former Soviet Union.  That's what makes it possible for Russian speaking people like myself to serve here and the Lord gives a great opportunity to reach many women for Him who also speak this language.

Over the past couple of years, I have seen how God has worked in the lives of many, many women from teenagers to the elderly.  We have the privilege of ministering both to those who come into prison as young adolescents as well to those who are spending their last days on earth confined behind bars.

Whether young or old, the Lord Jesus shows His love to all and while in prison many women hear of that great love for the first time.  That is why on several occasions we have actually heard women saying that they were glad that they went to prison, because that is where they found God.

That's the last place you would expect to find God, but several times a week our teams serve in the women's and teen men's prison, sharing the love of God in Christ Jesus with those who have been abandoned by all others, including family and friends.

With some of the teenage girls, we have served them from their entry into prison until they are set free and it is wonderful to see the positive changes that the Lord works in their lives as they follow Him.  We know He will continue doing so and we will continue supporting them with our prayers.
